Parent Advisory Meeting Minutes – Monday, May 31st, 2010

Monday, May 31st, 2010
1. What new information do we know?

  • Enrolment is currently at 380 (K-9)
  • We have hired 2 teachers for each grade K-6, 4 Junior High teachers and 1 music teacher
  • Staff will be touring Elizabeth Finch School on Monday, June 7th
  • Community Tours of Elizabeth Finch will be on August 23, 24

2. What is the latest information from our Playground Committee?

  • Bottle drive was successful ($7000)
  • Fundraising and money for the playground will come from the casino, bingo, raffle tickets, carnival, and Edmonton Eskimo Stands
  • If you would like to volunteer for any of these events, please contact Trisha or Marla
  • There will be a facebook account for COCL
  • July 8, 9 will be the casino- 2 more volunteers are needed
  • Raffle Tickets- $2 each and the draw date will be on August 8

3. How can we distill the vision statement into a mission and tag line?

  • Trudy from Odvod gave us the vision handout and whiteboard words and asked for feedback
  • Trudy took our feedback and now the vision statement is complete
  • We brainstormed words and phrases for a mission statement

4. What is a Relationship Management Plan? How will we develop one for Elizabeth Finch School?

  • Laurie explained how we are developing our Relationship Management Plan for Elizabeth Finch School and how the focus will be on Restorative Discipline.

Parents brainstormed their 3 non-negotiables for an Effective Relationship Plan:

  • Clear expectations communicated to all stakeholders
  • Celebrate positive behaviours and good citizenship
  • Consistent consequences
  • Solution focused/problem solving
  • Consistent and fair- common language and clear expectations
  • Trust and communication
  • Respect- non-judgmental, transparency, believing in students and teachers
  • Understanding
  • Fair is not EQUAL

5. How will we establish a School Council and a Parent Advisory Association?

  • We will establish a School Council and Parent Advisory Association at our September 20, 2010 meeting
  • Monthly School Council and Parent Advisory Meetings will be held on Monday nights at 6:30pm, starting September 20, 2010.

6. Do you have any questions?

  • Peanut Allergies- if there are peanut allergies in the classroom, the classroom will be peanut free
